Rubin graduated Valedictorian from Portland High School and proceeded to Bowdoin College, where he graduated cum laude. Subsequently, he received his Master of Arts degree in psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to attending law school, Rubin spent several years in the field of education and psychology and worked as a paralegal for a Portland law firm.

Prior to forming his own law firm in 1990, Rubin served for one year as the law clerk for the Honorable Thomas J. Lydon of the United States Claims Court in Washington, D.C., and served for two years as a law clerk for the Honorable Frederick A. Johnson and his successor, the Honorable James A. Goodman of the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Maine, in Portland, ME.

Rubin has focused his practice on bankruptcy, criminal law and probate.

Rubin is a member of the Maine State Bar Association, Cumberland County Bar Association and the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
